Top 10 Social Bookmarking Websites

August 8th, 2010
Jennifer Gonzalez asked:

What is social bookmarking you ask yourself? Well here it is. Social bookmarking (sometimes referred to as social tagging) websites allow you to bookmark a link of interest to a website and later retrieve if from any computer. Remember when you would have to write down websites you liked or could not access or recall a website because you were nowhere near your computer. Well not any more, now you have access to improve you internet experience through the use of these social bookmarking websites.

I have compiled a list of my top 10 social bookmarking websites. Some of the criteria I used to come up with this list include:

? Easy for first time users to understand, user friendly

? Simple to add a bookmark

? Have a lot of readers/followers

1. Blinklist.com – Blinklist.com is very user friendly. Any first time user on this website will have no problem finding their way around the website. Once you add your bookmark, it very simple to view it at anytime. All bookmarks are saved with a screen shot of the website, short description and the URL.

2. Digg.com – Digg.com is a very recognized social news website with a very positive reputation. It was due to the popularity of digg.com that many other social networking websites were formed. Anything bookmarked to digg.com will rank high on Google and other search engines. Digg.com meets all the criteria’s used for this list, it is very user friendly, easy to use and has many users.

3. Newsvine.com- Newsvine.com is excellent because not only can you bookmark content on your website, but you can also view all the up-to-date news information all other users have to offer. An excellent advantage is that newsvine.com has so many users that the possibility of attracting many readers is unavoidable, which is excellent for your business.

4. Sphinn.com – One of my favorite websites for many reasons. One, it is very easy to navigate (I like easy). Second, it breaks down all news posts, for example, “hot news” is broken down into sections that are very important to the success of every website like SEO and PPC, etc..

5. Mixx.com - This is a flourishing bookmarking and social media network. Fellow bookmarking website competitors include digg.com and reddit.com.

6. Reddit.com – Stories submitted to reddit.com immediately available for readers to view and vote. Like other social bookmarking websites, more votes on your post the higher the rank it will receive. Once s registered user, you have access to view your submitted bookmarks along with those bookmarks that were either liked or disliked by other readers. This is an excellent tool to help you track not only whether it was liked but also if it was read.

7. Delicious.com – delicious.com is an excellent source for social bookmarking which allows its users to create tags, save them to your account and share all tags with the public. As said by delicious.com “Delicious greatly improves how people discover, remember and share on the Internet.” Once again, very user friendly and easy to bookmark websites. Delicious is owned by Yahoo and is a must have for your social media and bookmarking strategy.

8. Propeller.com – Remember Netscape? For those of you who do, Netscape was purchased by AOL in 1998 and is now better known as Propeller, which is an excellent social bookmarking community. Once an account is created and a link has been added, readers can vote, comment, share with a friend or even bookmark for later reading. Sources say they should be redesigning the websites appearance soon, looking forward to it.

9. Bookmarktracker.com – If you’re the type of internet user that prefers not to download programs into your computer than this is the social bookmarking website for you. Most websites require downloading of software in order to successfully bookmark items. Bookmarktracker.com allows you to copy and paste the website URL into a field in your account and as easy as that the bookmarking is done.

10. Startaid.com – Last but not least, staraid.com is another excellent social bookmarking website which allows you to create a customized homepage for each account holder. In this homepage, account holders are able to see all bookmarks and manage them as well.

Social bookmarking websites have become a popular way to store, manage and share search links on the internet.

I Hope this information is useful and remember no harm can come from creating your own social bookmarking account.

Happy bookmarking…

Socialites and Celebrities – These Days, It’s Getting Increasingly Difficult to Tell the Difference

August 6th, 2010
Anne Harvester asked:

The idea of socialites has probably been around for millenia – at least as long as there have been cities – but the concept as it is used today is a fairly new one, yet at the same time, old.

In the U.S., the category of socialites first came about as a result of the concentration of wealth during the First Gilded Age from 1877 to 1893. Largely due to the industrialization of the country aided by the building of a vast network of railroads, a new class of the very wealthy arose in the U.S. (something that would have horrified Thomas Jefferson). Socialites became known for giving lavish parties, entertainments or formal occasions. Often, they would associate themselves with celebrities of the day, but were rarely heard about outside the Sunday “society pages” of big-city newspapers.

With the crash and subsequent economic depression of 1893, the First Gilded Age came to an end, and socialites became far less visible. However, because of many fortunes made as a result of U.S. involvement in World War I, socialites came back during the Second Gilded Age of the 1920s. Typical socialites of the period were depicted by writer F. Scott Fitzgerald in his novel, The Great Gatsby, and were mercilessly mocked in the satirical lyrics of Cole Porter. Both men knew their subject well; as celebrities, they frequently associated with the very same socialites of whom they were critical.

Nonetheless, there was still a neat distinction between socialites and celebrities; today, the names of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Cole Porter are remembered and revered, yet hardly anyone remembers the socialites of the “Jazz Age.”

Since the beginning of America’s Third Gilded Age in 1981, however the line between socialites and celebrities have become a bit blurred. It is as if money buys fame without the achievements that are normally the basis of celebrity. It’s highly unlikely that the expolits of Paris Hilton would have been national news in the 1920s; yet too many Americans who cannot name their representative in Congress know a great deal about the nation’s socialites.

On the other hand, celebrities in many ways are now starting to look like socialites. In the old days, very few people knew much about the lives of prominent figures outside of their achievements; between 1932 and 1945, virtually no Americans outside of Washington DC knew that their President was a paraplegic, confined to a wheelchair.

Today however, many Americans clamor to know more about the personalities and everyday lives of celebrities, just as they do socialites. Why this should be is unclear; perhaps in today’s media-saturated world; perhaps it makes the inaccessible seem just a little more accessible.

Learning Internet Marketing 107 – Social Bookmarking

July 29th, 2010
Shane E Kendrick asked:

There are five critical steps to optimising your website’s position for search engines. They are blogs, video online, social networking, social bookmarking, and content sharing sites. The previous articles in this series have been on the first three individual strategies to promote your business and to improve your search engine rankings; blogs, video online and social networking. This article will discuss the next of the five critical steps; social bookmarking, as the strategy that will accelerate the dissemination of the information from the first three strategies used on your website.

Definition

Social bookmarking is defined as a method for Internet users to store, organise, search and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet. It is the same as having favourites on your browser but instead of just having them located individually, the bookmarking will gather them according to particular groups or associations. Visitors can view these bookmarks in order of date or by category or tags. The links are then saved for sharing or later referring to. Social bookmarking is an efficient and sustainable way to share resources.

Social Bookmarking as a Strategy

All other strategies previously mentioned in this series have all been virtually stand-alone but essentially all feeding back to your blog. Social bookmarking accelerates the dissemination of information through the use of back-links to your site and in particular to your blog. The more back-links you have to your site the higher the search engine ranking of your site.

Some of the more popular social bookmarking sites include Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit and Del.icio.us. This list is by no means exhaustive and for a comprehensive list just do a search for social bookmarking.

The way to best utilise social bookmarking sites is to go to register and setup the various sites individually. Even though this may be time consuming initially, once done they can be set and you virtually forget them. Once setup and in place they accelerate the dissemination of information automatically. You only need to upload one video, for example and it is immediately sent out to all your setup sites. The explosive effect of this is multiplied exponentially when the search engines start noticing the numerous entries for just one video. Your rankings will also explode.

The viral effect of just one video or comment or link from your online video or other social networks instantaneously goes to as many sites as you have setup.

For maximum efficiency and sustainability always have your sites categorised according to their groups or topics. This way if you have multiple sites for each category then if all of your friends or family are registered with all these sites they will all received the same message or video or link. If you are using various categories of business associates then none of your prospects will ever miss out on that vital message or link, irrespective of which sites they may be registered with.

The best way to track you social bookmarking sites and the various other strategies you may be using is to maintain a register on a database or even a simple spreadsheet. This way you can keep a track of who is on what site and you can track your messages and videos and links that you send out and also keep a track on the success rates or the conversion rates of each strategy.

Finally, never forget to have key word or phrase rich tags in your content. In order to maximise your search engine rankings not only do you need to have the volume of sites out there but the content must also be key word or phrase rich to supercharge and accelerate your rankings.

In summary

Remember that the blog is the centrepiece of your five critical steps to optimise your rankings for your business but it also relies on the strategies that support it and provide the back-links to your blog. The other strategies are great but when combined with the social bookmarking your rankings will be accelerated and your information will be disseminated more sustainably and efficiently to an enormous number of sites instantaneously. Your search engine rankings can do nothing but increase dramatically.

In the concluding two articles in this series we will discuss the final strategy of content sharing sites and then bring the whole process together in one cohesive package.

Why Digg’s Deep Staff Cuts Matter to You

May 24th, 2010
Didar S. Khalsa asked:

At first glance you might not believe that Digg’s staff cuts matter to you as an Internet marketer. However, the simple fact is that Digg very well may matter to you and your financial future.

In past articles, we have discussed at length the importance of taking full advantage of the array of tools the Internet has to offer. One of the more interesting of these free tools has been Digg. But will this remain the case in the future?

Digg recently announced that they would be cutting around ten percent of their total staff. Of course, this came as a big shock to many. Yet in a way, this change could have been predicted fairly easily.

Digg is a major player in the dispersal of information across the Internet, but recently it has begun to show signs of stress.

Clearly, Digg has been a reliable performer and a great tool for Internet marketers. But Internet marketers should probably start keeping a close eye on this once mighty site.

As of late, Digg’s traffic has begun to slowly decline, leaving many to wonder what the future holds for the Internet juggernaut.

There are many reasons as to why Digg has seen its traffic begin to wane. One major reason is reputation. Digg has suffered from the fact that many people have realized just how good of a tool it can be. This has resulted in people flooding the site with worthless and annoying content.

As a result, people have begun to leave the site in favor of other options. One such option is Reddit, which has certainly carved into Digg’s market share.

Any Internet marketer that is contemplating using Digg or is currently invested in using Digg needs to keep an eye on where Digg’s traffic ultimately heads. How you spend your time and how you promote should translate into dollars.

If Digg is reaching less and less people, you may simply wish to reevaluate your overall strategy. You will need to go to where the eyeballs are, wherever that may be.

One of the most important skills that an Internet marketer or Internet entrepreneur can develop is to know when they need to shift attention elsewhere. I had to do this in a major fashion in 2007 when my two successful companies suffered at the hands of the real estate crash.

Having practiced yoga for years and having worked as a yoga instructor, I was able to stay in calm in a situation where I could have panicked. Being able to stay calm helped me rebuild as an Internet marketer. Today, I am financially secure and making more money than ever! It is due, in part, to my years of training with yoga.

Publicity Marketing That Will Make Your Branding Campaign Explode With Results Fast

April 4th, 2010
James B Scott asked:

The new question for the ages just got its answer, “How can my company website raise brand awareness and generate traffic while rapidly converting visitors and give me instant credibility fast?” This is all you’re really after with your publicity and marketing efforts isn’t it? More traffic and more brand awareness always converts visitors into buying customers. Here are 9 ways to transform your next marketing campaign into an all out super massive publicity marketing crusade that you’ll be talking about for the next 20 years.

First, get on the video promotion bandwagon. Create informative, industry specific, 2 to 5 minute videos that answer the most common questions your clients have and post these videos to as many video hosting sites as you can find. Next hit the ‘How To’ video hosting sites. Give your future customers some helpful advice that will demonstrate the power of your knowledge, give them a few tantalizing tools that will get them ready to call you or make that online purchase. How To videos will make you stand out as an authority in your field and induce an overall sensation of comfort in your client.

Now it’s time for the Social book marketing circuit. Float around to different social book marketing sites and find a place to plug in helpful info to assist people in finding information that is specific to your industry. Your signature link will lead all these clients back to you. If you have something important going on in your industry go to the social news sites to place a link and a small caption explaining what they’ll find on the link and again your signature will lead them right back to you. For those short spurts of stream of consciousness thinking at 2am, make that dead time count; put your industry specific thought patters on any or all of the Micro-blogging platforms on the web.

This is a powerful way to raise brand awareness and generate a strong ‘friend’ following online. Have an interesting photo or industry niche image? Why not turn it into a marketing gold mine on a few of the popular photo sharing sites? Photo and image marketing is one of the most powerful and underused online marketing genres. When an interesting image is submitted with targeted keyword phrases, this means tons of exposure for your online marketing initiative. Ever dreamed of having your own television or radio station? Try pod-casting, there are few ways to raise brand awareness and generate a cult like following of loyal “mini me’s”.

Imagine thousands of people downloading your podcast and listing to your message while driving to work or jogging. Are you blogging? If not you should be; you should have your own blog and you should also participate on other industry specific blogs, to ensure optimal publicity and exposure, be sure to use a free ping service. Have several aspects to your industry? Set up multiple blogs that concentrate on one singular aspect of your industry by using free high pr blog platforms. Customize each blog with a stand out theme and offer something for free to entice readers to subscribe to your weekly news letter. There you have it, multiple ways to dominate your industry fast and easy. Raise company awareness and generate sales fast with a solid publicity marketing campaign.

NYC Fashion is the Talk of the Town

April 2nd, 2010
Anne Harvester asked:

Here’s a bit of trivia about NYC fashion; did you know that the name for nylon stockings was originally derived from New York and London – the two cities where this useful material was first developed as an alternative to silk?

Actually, although this is a popular explanation for the etymolgy of the word “nylon,” there’s little historical evidence to support it. Nonetheless, it is a colorful story – but no less than the story of the NYC fashion scene as a whole.

Although Paris is often seen as the center of the fashion world, the garment industry has had a long presence in the Empire State, and New York City in particular. Entire districts were once given over to the small tailor’s shops, haberdasheries and clothing stores that werer the forerunner of the modern NYC fashion industry.

Of course, the NYC fashion scene is more than designers and manufacturers of clothing – much more. Those who work behind the scenes – textile designers, photographers and the editors and publishers of NYC fashion-oriented literature and periodicals often make significant contributions toward determining what the “in” crowd will be wearing this season, even when these contributions are not generally recognized by the public at large.

What is interesting about the fashion world in general and NYC fashion in particular is the fact that it has virtually always been dominated by women. From the earliest fashion designers of 18th-Century London to the most recent cutting-edge NYC fashion design houses of mid-town Manhattan, it is women designers who have traditionally set the pace and tone for each season. Currently at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology Museum, an exhibit running through the beginning of November 2008 meticulously recounts the history of women’s fashion design, of which the NYC fashion scene is but a part. What is most interesting is that the designs of these women are generally conversative, understated and tasteful; the garish and often bizarre creations that are seen from time to time in NYC fashion industry trade shows are usually the creation of men, attempting to design clothing for women (with a fair amount of chemical assistance, one suspects).

Sometimes of course, these florid designs have their use; the late Ert? (“R.T.” in French, for “Roman Tyrtov”), whose lavish costumes graced many of Ziegfield’s girls during the 1920s, the style of which set the tone of “art deco” in terms of NYC fashion, was one of those rare male designers whose sense of fashion had a profound effect on the NYC fashion scene in general.

Women who look wistfully at NYC fashion longing to be part of it but perhaps lack the wherewithal should not despair, but consider the words of Ert?, who said: “A resourceful woman who is almost downright plain can achieve the reputation of a beauty simply by announcing to everybody she meets that she is one.” NYC fashion is no substitute for self-confidence – in women or men.

How to Choose Social Bookmarking Sites to Share Your Content

March 12th, 2010
Brian A Scott asked:

Social bookmarking is becoming extremely popular on the internet. With so many internet users today and so many wonderfully informative websites around, social media is a great way to get in touch with the websites that interest you without spending hours going through traditional search engine results.

Social media does more than provide you with articles and websites that interest you. They also provide you with an opportunity to share your stories and favorite websites with family members, friends and even strangers.

Choosing which social bookmarking sites to use will probably be the most difficult decision because there are hundreds of great sites. While many of them are very similar, each may have their own unique features.

Although sites like Facebook and Twitter are more often referred to as social networking sites, they’re two very popular sites for making friends and sharing interests. However, navigation for people just looking for specific topics is not quite as easy.

Some of the more common sites include StumbleUpon, Digg, Technorati Favorites, PlugIM, Del.icio.us, Ma.gnolia, Blinklist, Propeller and Bumpzee. Keep in mind that these are just a few. Currently there are over 200 sites. Don’t be afraid to check a few of them out to see what you think.

You may also want to become a member of a couple of the sites as well. Some of the bookmarking sites require you to join before you can submit anything, but others will allow you to submit and search without joining. These may be the ones that will interest you the most until you really get the hang of social media. It will also give you a chance to see what each of your favorites have to offer you.

Many user like Digg because you have the choice to vote (Dig it) on an article or bury it. The way the article is dug or buried will determine how high or low on the rankings it shows up. One of the oldest and most popular social bookmarking sites is Delicious. You’ll find a lot of interesting things on this site. StumbleUpon is equally popular.

Ma.gnolia is a site that offers many features for community building, which is very popular on the web today. If you’re just beginning social bookmarking sites, you may want to try Blinklist. It’s simple to use, easy to understand and offers many great features. One of the first things you’ll want to do when you find a social bookmarking site is install the button on your web browser. This is a very simple procedure and will make it much easier to use the social bookmarking sites.

5 Ways to Quickly and Easily Drive Massive Amounts of Traffic

March 10th, 2010
Gregg Gillies asked:

Traffic. Traffic. Traffic. Every internet marketer and blogger is looking for more traffic.

Luckily, there are some simple traffic generation techniques you can put in place to quickly drive traffic to your blog.

1. Quality (Original) Content

Putting quality content on your blog can generate traffic to your site. High quality original content encourages other blogs and web sites to link to your content.

2. Social News Sites

You can leverage your quality content by using social news sites like Digg and Propeller.

Submitting your quality content to these social news sites can generate direct traffic from the sites themselves and long term traffic via the back links you get on the social news sites.

I still get traffic from these sites from content submissions I made over a year ago.

3. Social Bookmarking

Open up social bookmarking accounts at sites like OnlyWire.com or SocialPoster.com then bookmark your quality content at all these sites.

Be sure to use long tail keywords as your tags.

4. Forum Posts

Being active in a forum related to your niche will also generate traffic to your site.

You do this simply by being helpful with your posts and including a link to your blog in your forum signature that appears underneath your post.

5. Yahoo Answers

This is similar to using forum posts.

Answer questions related to your niche and cite your site as your source with a link back to your site for more information. Don’t spam.

These traffic generation tips aren’t sexy but they are effective for driving traffic to your blog [http://www.elitebloggersclub.com].
